Slow PC Bootup?

Have you ever had to call tech support for a problem with your computer? Then you know that they always tell you to reboot your computer several times during the conversation. If you have actually conversed with the tech support guy about your kids’ last soccer game while waiting for your computer to come back up, then slow bootup is a major problem for you and you need to fix it.

System Tray

Slow bootup may be a result of having too much on your plate at once, or more technically, in your system tray. The system tray is on the bottom of your screen to the left of your clock located in the right hand corner. You will see icons of things that are running on the computer. You might have to click the little arrow to see them all. A major cause of slow bootup is having too many things loading at the time you turn on your PC. You need to get rid of the things you don’t need running all the time to prevent slow bootup.

What You Need

Don’t get rid of everything in your system try to prevent slow bootup because some of them are necessary. Your antivirus can cause slow bootup but should load automatically, as should your hardware devices that are plugged in, like keyboard and mouse, but these shouldn’t necessarily be showing up in your system tray and may be causing slow bootup.

Leave the antivirus alone, but double click on any icons that are for your hardware. You will probably find that your mouse icon is actually a setup program that was used to initially install and configure the mouse or special features and you no longer need it. To get a faster computer you should check your system tray and any programs that are running, these can clog your system down.

What You Think You Need

If you are tired of slow bootup then you need to get rid of the fun things you have opening on startup and open them manually as you need them. You don’t need your instant messenger on startup, or your music or juke box program(s), or your reminder calendar. These are things that cause serious slow bootup problems and each of these can be opened once the computer is on.

Another thing that causes slow bootup that many people don’t think about is a desktop theme. Typically a desktop theme that you have added to your computer is going to start up on bootup, and it should. But the previous five themes that you are no longer using should not be. Get rid of them for a quick fix for slow bootup problems.
