3 Steps to a Fast Computer

Whether or not your PC is lagging, you probably still want it to perform optimally. Even a fast computer can be made faster. But if you don't already have one, then you will most definitely want to read these three steps to speed it up.

Get Organized

You've been told that all your life and you're probably thinking that you are too old for someone to be telling you to 'clean it up', but if you want a fast computer that is exactly what you are going to have to do. It takes some time, and it really should be done weekly if you use your PC on a daily basis in order to maintain a fast computer.

For a fast computer, first, you will need to remove any files that you don't need. Pictures can go onto a CD, as can old files that you want to keep but no longer use regularly. Next, go into your tools from the start menu accessories tab and run the 'disc cleanup'. Once that is done you will want to run the 'defrag'. This will compress your files so that your computer can find them quickly.

Registry Cleansing

Some will tell you that your registry has nothing to do with having a fast computer, but others swear that it does. If you are unsure about using a registry cleaner because of the differences in expert opinions, you can try a free scan such as SpeedUpMyPC and see if you have any potential errors after running it. Many times it's these errors that are slowing down your PC. If so, then you can continue to use it on a regular basis.

Spyware and Virus Removal

You won't have a fast PC if the spyware people have anything to say about it. Some spyware will be caught by your antivirus software and some of that will be removed. However, antivirus is not meant to be anti-spyware software and for a fast computer you will need to have both. You should already have antivirus software on your computer, but if not it is very important that you get it, not just for a fast computer, but for a safe computer. Anti-spyware programs are easy to find and affordable. Some are free but you need to be sure to update the software regularly if you use a freebie that doesn't auto-update.
